FOUR Steps To Take Your Makeup From Day To Night

By Catherine Gao

Life is busy and time is short, so sometimes, we need to fit work and play on the same day. Here is your step-to-step guide to transforming your natural daytime makeup into night-out glam – using minimal products and minimal effort!

1) THE BASE: USE A CUSHION COMPACT FOUNDATION

Using a cushion compact foundation is the secret to achieving fresh looking makeup all day long. Thanks to the cushion applicator, the product will melt in the skin, creating a crease-free and flake-free finish. It’s also conveniently packaged so you can keep it in your handbag for touching up later in the day.

[Day]  Simply take your powder puff, tap it into the cushion and apply it on your face in a pressing motion.

[Night] Apply another layer! You want a heavier coverage for the night.

2) THE BROWS: BROW MASCARA

Brow touch ups are unnecessary when you can keep your brows perfectly in place and filled in with a brow mascara.

[Day] Take your brow mascara, follow the shape of your eyebrows and lightly brush the product on 2-3 times.

[Night] You can skip doing your eyebrows. If you’ve invested in good product, there’s no need for further touch ups! They’ll still look perfectly in place like you just applied makeup.

3) THE EYES: FROM TIGHT LINING TO THE DRAMATIC EYELINER

Imagine removing off your eye makeup after work and then reapplying it for a night out. Sounds time consuming and skin damaging, right? Our biggest tip is to wear very light eye makeup in the day so you can gradually build it up.

[Day] Wash your entire eyelids with a matte and neutral shade, like taupe. Highlight the inner V of your eyes. Tight line your lash line with a pencil eyeliner, curl your lashes and apply two coats of your favourite mascara.

[Night] Since you have already prepped your eyelids with a versatile taupe colour, you’re ready to add on darker shades of eyeshadow for a night out look. Use a liquid eyeliner to create a more dramatic effect.

4) THE LIPS: ONE RED LIPSTICK IS ALL YOU NEED

A highly pigmented lipstick is not only for fancy dinners and parties. Here is how ONE red lipstick can get you from sunrise to sunset:

[Day] Moisturise and prep your lips with lip balm, and then apply the red lipstick with a lip brush. Using a folded tissue paper, gently dab your lips. This tissue trick will tone down the red colour, creating a long-lasting lip stain effect – perfect for everyday.

[Night] Apply the same high pigmented lipstick you used in the day, but in full colour. Who doesn’t want to brighten up the night with a bold red lip?
