My name is Vanessa and I’m the Marketing and Partnerships Coordinator of Her Fashion Box. Last Saturday, HFB co-founder Kerry and I had the pleasure of attending RESCU.com.au’s very first life makeover event, Rescu Me. If you’ve never heard of Rescu before, it’s a fantastic online community that provides expert advice on life, fashion, beauty, health and finance – they proudly call themselves “your digitial BFF, your virtual sister, or your trusted daily dose of advice”.
Rescu Me was held at the classy Hilton Hotel in Sydney. Despite the torrential rain, hundreds of fabulous women (and even a few men) gathered from across the country to attend the very first event held by Rescu. The atmosphere was certainly buzzing when Kerry and I arrived. Guests mingled with one another and were treated to a range of services such as makeovers by Bobbi Brown, a skin diagnosis by Dr. Lewinn’s (a favourite brand amongst HFB and featured in our June Box!), health advice from IsoWhey, and even a glass of wine from Rococo – it’s never too early for some sparkly!
Once we were seated inside the grand ballroom, MC Kerri-Anne Kennerly took to the stage and introduced the beautiful founder of Rescu, Bahar Etminan, who gave her welcoming address. We heard Bahar’s incredible story of her transformation from high-flying business owner who was hit suddenly by the GFC, to being reborn through her creation of the now extremely successful Rescu business and enriching the lives of thousands of women across the country.
The morning began with one of the world’s leading astrologers Yasmin Boland, who conducted a morning manifestation meditation. Yasmin cleared our thoughts and cleansed our minds, and it was the perfect way to start the day. She also read out our horoscopes. Kerry’s star sign (Gemini) forecast she would have plenty of good luck this year, so we have high hopes for HFB!
Once everyone was relaxed, real-estate guru and business expert John McGrath kick-started the rest of the day with a motivation keynote address, in which he discussed his guide to personal transformation and raising the value of Brand You.
Next up was the Health and Wellbeing Panel, which featured celebrity nutritionist Zoe Bingley Pullin, fitness extraordinaire Sally Symonds, naturopath Anthia Koullouros, and health & lifestyle guru Sharon Kolkka. We learnt how to achieve a healthy diet through proper nutrition and supplements, the myths of dieting, how to transform your body and soul, and techniques we can apply to de-stress.
Anthony Bell, CEO of Bell Partners accounting firm, was the next speaker. He gave an extremely inspiring pep talk on wealth creation strategies and gave expert advice on reaching financial freedom, convincing all of us that we have the potential to make millions! Kerry and I frantically took down notes, and not to our surprise so was everyone else. Anthony spoke about how he was personally invited by Sir Richard Branson to attend one of his private islands to discuss the future of Virgin along with 12 other people around the world, proving how amazingly talented he is. Amongst those 12 people were the real Ben and Jerry! Who even knew they were real people?
After a delicious gourmet lunch was the highly anticipated Life & Style Panel, which featured fashion expert Glynis Traill-Nash, style mentor Josh Flinn, and interior designer and judge of Channel 9’s The Block, Darren Palmer. The panel gave invaluable advice on how to rock this season’s latest trends (pencil skirts, all shades of blue and monochrome are IN), how to channel style icons such as Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, and tips to creating a room to reflect your personal style. We even got a sneak peak of Jennifer Hawkin’s chic pad that Darren styled!
The Beauty Panel was up next talking “all things gorgeous”. Celebrity makeup artist Michael Brown taught us the art of contouring to achieve modelesque cheekbones, while renowned cosmetic surgeon Dr. Mark Kohout discussed the myths of plastic surgery and showed us some incredible before and after shots of his work. Celebrity hairdresser Joh Bailey then entertained with his beloved OTT sense of humour, by revealing the latest hair trends this season.
After a quick break, fashion guru Alex Perry took to the stage to speak about his 20 Years Of Glamour, and his incredible journey from “wog boy” of Sydney’s south to world-reclaimed fashion designer, featuring on the cover of Vogue and being worn by celebrities on the red carpet. Kerri-Anne Kennerly and Joh Baily then joined Alex Perry on the stage for their own version of Fashion Police – judging celebrity styles as “the Good, the bad, the ugly”. The trio was hilarious, and their banter and bickering had the whole crowd in stitches.
The day ended with a spectacular showcase of Alex Perry’s acclaimed SS14 collection. It was the perfect way to end the day! Each guest was given a gift bag to take home which included $200 worth of amazing goodies from brand partners such as Aveda, Bobbi Brown and Dr. Lewinn’s.
Kerry and I left the event feeling so inspired, refreshed, and motivated to apply what we had just learnt to our own lives, both professionally and personally. RescuMe was a life-changing event that we thoroughly enjoyed and we will definitely be employing its teachings to building Her Fashion Box into an even bigger and better brand. We would like to thank the speakers, Rescu Team and Bahar for putting on such an inspirational event, and look forward to the next RescuMe.
