Paris Fashion Week AW 16-17 Wrap Up

By Bronte Hoy

Paris Fashion Week has just wrapped up for 2016 and it’s time to say au revoir to our favourite French designers for a while. The Autumn-Winter 16/17 collections from designers like Chloé, Christian Dior, and Valentino dazzled us on the runway once again with warm yet incredibly luxe styles that we’ll all no doubt be rocking through autumn and winter before summer comes to ruin the fun of jackets, furs, and oversized jumpers and dresses. So, let’s take a look at some of the best looks from PFW and see what’s on trend for the cooler months!

FURS

Much like New York and Milan, the AW collections of various designers at Paris Fashion Week involved layering on the fur. Over the top of a graphic tee or an eye-catching print jacket and some perfectly cropped trousers, the age old fur turns any adorably sweet outfit into a tough statement of power.

THIGH HIGHS

We all knew that thigh high boots were making a comeback but Gigi Hadid showed us how to work them on the runway for Balmain. The suede boots looked so chic with a short, seemingly signature grey skirt that reappeared many times throughout the Balmain show along with a long grey duster coat that just screamed sophistication. Alexandre Vauthier’s models also showed a bit of thigh during private shows during the week. PFW just announced a major trend alert – look out for thigh high boots.

CAPES

Nothing says winter quite like a chic cape and the Chloé show was full of them! Various models donned luxurious, oversized capes throughout the show and most of them were swimming with colour. Who’s excited for winter?

LOW SHOULDERED COATS

The Dior show proved to be a shockingly dark one but we totally loved it. The largely monochrome collection featured a lot of low shouldered jackets and Kendall Jenner managed to bewitch us all with her bare shoulders and wickedly dark lipstick.

RETURN OF THE EIGHTIES

Once again, Paris follows suit with Milan and New York by bringing back the eighties. The Isabel Marant show was overwhelmed with big, curly hairstyles and impressive statement boots.

COLOUR SPLASH

Bella Hadid was the talk of the Givenchy show with her dark dress and even darker cheekbones but it was the impressive splashes of colour throughout the new collection that turned heads. The collection featured various Egyptian style prints, colour schemes, and symbols as well as bright splashes that made the dresses look like canvases. A work of art, there’s nothing quite like PFW!
