1960’s waves glided down the runway at White Sands SS13 MBFWA on Monday. Gorgeous summerific swimwear designs were complemented by the retro ‘S wave’ look created by Redken hair director Paloma Rose Garcia that were designed to waft down the runway.
“[White Sands’ designer] Leah’s collection showed soft prints with a 50’s, 60’s feel to them and I wanted that softness to come through in the hair. It’s the backcombing at the crown which is really key to accentuate the 60’s feel.”
Paloma worked Rootful 06 to the crown of the head for lift, which worked to accentuate the entire look at the finish. She then applied Guts 10 for super-body through the entire lengths and dried the hair completely. Using the centre of the eye as a jumping off point, she created a deep low side part (a key SS13 trend!), pulling back diagonally to the crown. Fashion Works 12 was first sprayed onto medium size sections, curled towards the face and then pinned to the scalp to cool. All curls were kept to below the brow for a relaxed, retro wave feel. Finally, hair was brushed out and shaped with a soft bristle brush and spritzed with Fashion Works 12 again to keep in place.
